At the beginning of 2016, the Greater New York area's contribution to the US economy was $1.5 trillion, not only outstrips all other regions in the Unites States, but it also exceeds the GDP of all but 11 countries. If Greater New York’s were its own country the economy would be larger than both Australia and South Korea combined.
